Bike Recommendations
Prior to coming to our first practice, we recommend every bike used for ICMTBCLUB practices and races has the following:
Bike is the proper size for the rider
Saddle height is adjusted for the rider (performing this process will also help determine if the bike is the correct size.
Has multiple functioning gears and front and rear brake
Has knobby tires for riding dirt
Has proper tire pressure for riding off road (see below)
Has all fasteners properly tightened
Has intact handlebar grips and/or bar plugs (no exposed metal handlebar poking out)
Tire Pressure:
Having correct tire pressure for riding off road dirt trails is critical to having a fun and safe time.
Typically tires will give a pressure range on the side of the tire, typically it will be something like 30-50PSI, 30-65PSI, 40-60PSI, etc. These ranges are just industry suggestions, and are usually too high for off road riding.
We recommend around ½ of the numbers you see on the sidewalls for smaller youth riders, so you should expect to have somewhere between 15-30PSI, sometimes even less for the smaller riders (<50lbs).
If your kids are also riding pavement during the week, you will want to air those tires back up to the recommended range seen on the side of the tires for pavement riding.
